1. Canvas yarn count:
In short, the yarn count refers to the fineness of the yarn. Currently, the commonly used system in China is still the "British system", which means that a pound (454 grams) of cotton yarn (or other components of yarn) weighs 840 yards (0.9144 yards/meter), and the fineness of the yarn is one count. If a pound of yarn, its length is 10 × 840 yards, with a fineness of 10 pieces, the representation of yarn count in the English system is represented by the English letter "S". The representation of single yarn is: 32 pieces of single yarn - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -.
2. Canvas density:
The unit of calculation for the density of canvas fabric is the metric system, which refers to the number of warp and weft yarns arranged within 10cm. The size of density directly affects the physical and mechanical indicators of the fabric, such as appearance, feel, thickness, strength, bending resistance, breathability, wear resistance, and warmth retention. It also affects the cost and production efficiency of the product.
(1) Direct measurement method
The direct measurement method is achieved by using a fabric mirror or a fabric density analysis mirror. The scale length of the fabric density analysis mirror is 5cm. Under the analysis lens, a long strip of glass is engraved with a red line. When analyzing the fabric density, move the lens to align the red line on the glass and the red line on the scale between two yarns. Starting from this, move the lens while counting the number of yarns until the 5cm scale line reaches this point. The density value of 10cm fabric is obtained by multiplying the number of output yarns by 2.
When counting the number of yarns, the center between the two yarns should be used as the starting point. If the number reaches the end point and exceeds 0.5 but is less than one, it should be calculated as 0.75 yarns; If it is less than 0.5 pieces, it will be calculated as 0.25 pieces. Generally, 3-4 data should be measured for fabric density, and then the arithmetic mean of them should be taken as the measurement result.
(2) Indirect testing method
This method is suitable for fabrics with high density and small yarn count in regular weave. Firstly, by analyzing the fabric structure and its cyclic warp/weft count (cyclic weft count), and then multiplying by the number of cyclic weft counts in 10cm, the product obtained is the warp/weft density.
